Shunkashūtō, the four seasons (2023)

Espacio Joven Ibercaja, Zaragoza, Spain

The four seasons are a very important part of traditional Japanese aesthetics and we can appreciate them, not only in pictorial art, but also in crafts, sewing and poetry. They are also present in philosophical concepts related to change due to the passage of time, the beauty of imperfection and the admiration of the ephemeral. The word shunkashūtō (春夏秋冬), composed of the ideograms for spring, summer, autumn and winter, names the set of the four seasons in Japanese. The works in this exhibition are inspired by nature, architecture and everyday life in Japan, showing the four seasons from landscapes, atmospheric phenomena, floral motifs or characteristical color ranges.
